Featured Guest Post: BZRK
At Got Your Head in the Clouds, we like to get inside of an artist's mind. These formative questions help bring insight to an artist's music and often adds an element of surprise. In today's Featured Guest post we have Nashville based rap sensations, BZRK on board. Listen up...
Topic Question: The concept to create the lyrical inspiration for the new record is inspiring and certainly shows an active participation between the group members. What common thread stood out in each piece to form these cohesive songs?
The album began as any other. Anesthetic Awareness was in the works for being released, and Cropsey had just joined BZRK and was producing beats for us. We (ThirdEye G and Mac Don) had planned on making a couple solo mixtapes between us, both using some of Cropsey's beats. Eventually we both wrote a song together (the 3rd track on the album, The Longer Now) and realized that this particular trio could make a heavy hitting album in no time. We began to record more tracks, spend all of our time together, and essentially brainstorm the entire work. The concept and feel of the album sort of fell together in a very easy way, as Cropsey's beats all sound like alien druggy lovemaking crazymusic, and we had strong new convictions on our attitudes as rappers. We felt that, especially in Nashville, people were being too apathetic and lazy when it comes to putting yourself out there and saying what you really think. We had recently found that living life exactly how you want to is huge in being successful, as you can never truly feel yourself if you aren't happy with your situation. Several metaphors and concept ideas later, Crop Circles was created! The "common thread" was most likely a culmination of what we'd experienced in the rap game so far. We all realized that we wanted something that takes pure determination and strength to achieve. We also realized that there are several forces that want to keep us from achieving this particular something, so we made an album about how you can put these forces to work for you, instead of against you. Cropsey laid down a perfect base for us to express our emotions on this topic over, and we didn't stop until an album was finished. You can find all of these notions and ideas in our newest album, Crop Circles, buried under trippiness and a story as weird as any. Listen to the phone calls! Experience the whole album at once! Thank you for your time.
