Featured Guest Post: JES

At Got Your Head in the Clouds, we like to get inside of an artist's mind. These formative questions help bring insight to an artist's music and often adds an element of surprise. In today's Featured Guest post we have crossover artist JES.

JES is beyond well known for dance and electronic infused music, and has worked with big names such as Tiesto. For The Principle movie you had co-written and performed Sky Stand Still, which was out of your normal musical realm. What steps did you take to make the transformation, in perfection from these two different genres and musical standpoints? Did the transformation dictate the essence of the song's feel?

JES: Although I’m probably best known for my work in the electronic field of music I actually come from a singer / songwriter background. It has really been a return to where I started musically so that was something that I enjoyed greatly. My writing process hasn’t really changed too much as I have always written with acoustic instruments (mainly piano and guitar) even for the electronic work. I love being able to be a chameleon and work across genres. A great song can translate into any style depending on which colors you choose in the production of it. It really comes down to writing something that touches people and stays with them. With that said, I had a self added pressure because I wanted to make the song so perfect for the films creators and make sure it made a stamp on the film so that definitely sparked some extra creativity in me.
